Sewers of the World

Sewers are a hallmark of civilization and culture.  To demonstrate the impotance of sewers and civilization, we proudly present a collection of sewer covers from around the world.  The pictures below illustrate the underlying significance of sewers to urban life, as well as the diversity of materials and cultures expressed in environmental engineering.

Sewer Museum in Paris
Paris is famous for may things, including the origins of modern sanitary engineering and sewers.  So it is fitting that Paris' Musee des Egouts (Sewer Museum) should have a plaque honoring the engineers who first built Paris' modern sewers in the 1850s, among the names is Jules Dupuit.

Sewers of the World, Unite! [Alas, appears to be a dead link.]
A web site done by artists of sever covers from around the world, hundreds of them!  An amazing collection, illustrating the global variety and frequent artistry of the humble sewer cover.
