Voyages of the Dammed
Visiting dams is a wonderful way to see California. They tend to
be located a little off the beaten path, often in or near scenic areas
with a variety of recreational opportunities. Dams are marvels in
their own right, with a great many interesting physical and engineering
features illustrating structural engineering, engineering geology, hydrology,
and hydrodynamics. Fish hateries and other features often co-located
with dams offer additional interesting features to visit. While few
dams regularly offer tours, almost all dams can be visited. (Have
you ever tried to hide a dam?) Here are some tips for visiting dams
or taking tours of dams.
